Allegory

Memories often deteriorate as we age. As we live and experience things in our lives, we build up a vast internal vocabulary of images and other things we pick up along the way. Our memories begin to develop holes in them and when we think back we struggle to mend these holes in order to keep them alive. This has given me the want to work toward keeping the memories that I cherish safe and to keep them intact the best I can. When an important figure that was a key part of my memories is taken away suddenly and cruelly, the need to preserve and protect the memories becomes vital. Loss has forced me to confront personal issues while going through old memories in coping with this event. These personal issues that I have pushed away for years have slowly crept in on me when I am at my most vulnerable state. From these tragic events, I hope to create something beautiful out of the darkness that has been surrounding my family and me. The works I have created are for those family members who I am away from and for those who are away from us all. I see this body of work as a gift for them and a coping device for myself to get through these hard times.
